AYCE Sushi Rules & Etiquette: What to Know Before You Go

Guide · AYCE Sushi Mississauga

All-you-can-eat sushi runs on a simple deal: the restaurant gives you unlimited food at a fixed price, and in exchange you follow a few house rules that keep the model sustainable. Most of these rules aren't posted anywhere obvious — you learn them when you break one. Here's everything Mississauga AYCE first-timers should know before sitting down.

The House Rules

01

Finish what you order — leftover fees are real

Nearly every AYCE restaurant charges for excessive uneaten food, typically per piece or per plate. It's the single most enforced rule. Order conservatively; you can always order again.

02

Order in waves, not all at once

The pro move is small rounds: 6–10 pieces, eat, reorder. Food arrives fresher, you pace yourself better, and you avoid the leftover-fee trap entirely. Massive first orders are the classic rookie mistake.

03

Respect the time limit

Most spots run 90–120 minute seatings, with the clock starting when you sit down. Kitchens usually take last orders 15–20 minutes before your time is up, so don't save your favourites for the end.

04

No takeout, no sharing with non-AYCE diners

The price covers what you eat at the table, during your seating. Boxing up food or passing plates to someone who ordered à la carte breaks the deal and most restaurants will charge for it.

05

Everyone at the table usually has to do AYCE

Most restaurants require the whole table to order all-you-can-eat (kids' pricing aside). It prevents plate-sharing and is standard policy across the GTA — call ahead if your group wants to mix formats.

06

Tip on the real value, and be kind to staff

AYCE servers run constant rounds of small orders — it's more work than regular service, not less. Standard tipping applies, and a friendly table often gets faster reorders.

Getting the Most Value

Skip the fillers. Rice is the cheapest thing on the menu, so heavy rice rolls fill you up fastest — sashimi, nigiri, and appetizers like grilled items deliver far more value per bite of stomach space. Start with the premium items while you're hungry, save the rolls for later rounds, and skip the tempura mountain at the start (it's delicious, and it's a trap).

Timing matters too. If value is the goal, weekday lunch is significantly cheaper — though with a smaller menu. Our lunch vs dinner guide breaks down exactly what changes between the two services.
